A teenage boy in North Carolina has been prosecuted for having nude pictures of himself on his own mobile phone. The young man, who is now 17 but was 16 at the time the photos were discovered, had to strike a plea deal to avoid potentially going to jail and being registered as a sex offender. Experts condemned the case as ludicrous. The boy was, however, punished by the courts, and had to agree to be subject to warrantless searches by law enforcement for a year, in addition to other penalties. The young man was also named in the media and suffered a suspension as quarterback of his high school football team while the case was being resolved. Cormega Copening, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, was prosecuted as an adult under federal child pornography felony laws, for sexually exploiting a minor. The minor was himself.

Online harassment of women at risk of becoming 'established norm', study finds
After a spate of recently-hacked phone nudes, it's clear our advice to never shoot pictures of your own junk isn't going to catch on. So if you're going to do it, at least do it well. Here's how to make your naked shots shine. Aside from using a phone built after, say, , this is probably the most important strategy: snap your pictures where the light is good. Turn on lamps at roughly the same height as the parts you want to accentuate, and avoid stark overhead lights—no naked human has ever looked great shrouded in shadows. Low light settings also fill your pictures with distracting and horribly unsexy digital noise. For bright light options, choose daylight over fluorescent light. You want your self-snap to be amateurish, but not like some security camera capture from a crime scene.
Teenagers are increasingly snapping naked pictures of themselves on their cell phones, officials say, with the photos often falling into the wrong hands. Such images are complicating the work of investigators whose job is to find exploited children. Authorities trying to identify youngsters in naked photos are increasingly discovering that the teens themselves took the shots, said John Shehan, a director at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. School administrators in Santa Fe, Texas, confiscated dozens of cell phones from students in May after nude photos of two junior high girls began circulating. The girls had sent the photos to their boyfriends, who forwarded them to others, officials said. In La Crosse, Wisconsin, a year-old boy recently was charged with child pornography, sexual exploitation of a child and defamation for allegedly posting nude photos of his year-old ex-girlfriend on his MySpace page. The girl had taken the pictures with her cell phone at her mother's home and e-mailed them to the boyfriend, authorities said.
