With summer in full swing, it's natural to want to shed your layers, especially when temperatures hover near Go Topless , an international topless advocacy group, says Texas is one of 36 states where "top freedom is in effect," or where no laws directly prohibit public toplessness. Austin is the only city in Texas to pass the "topless test," according to gotopless. In San Antonio women who go topless in public can be arrested under one of three penal codes, public lewdness , indecent exposure or disorderly conduct if it appears the public could be offended by the display, a representative from the San Antonio Police Department said. None of the codes specifically mention going shirtless, only public intercourse or the displaying of genitalia is mentioned.
As states push to criminalize the sharing of intimate photos to get revenge on former sex partners, Texas is teaming with Bumble to crack down on people who send unsolicited nude images on dating apps and elsewhere in cyberspace. The new Texas law banning so-called cyber flashing comes after state Rep. Morgan Meyer of Dallas collaborated with the Austin-based social and dating application company to shepherd a bill earlier this year. It wasn't a criminal offense - although it was definitely digital sexual harassment. The law set to take effect Saturday forbids what is often characterized as technology-enabled sexual harassment. Meyer said the law targeting unwanted images will apply to text messages, email, dating apps and social media. A survey by Pew Research Center found women encounter sexual harassment online at much higher rates than men. Caroline Ellis Roche, Bumble's chief of staff, said the company plans to take the legislation to the federal level and other states in hopes of enacting it more broadly. The Cyber Civil Rights Initiative reports that 46 states have laws tackling so-called revenge porn, but almost none combat unsolicited sexually explicit images. A handful of other states have laws criminalizing the electronic messaging of lewd content, but most of them are linked to the sender's intentions.
By Snejana Farberov For Dailymail. Authorities in Louisiana have charged a woman with close to criminal counts after they say she traveled to Texas to mail numerous nude photos depicting two men to more than two dozen people. Sarah Pharis, 32, from Sulphur, was initially arrested on December 28 and charged with counts of non-consensual disclosure of a private image after her colleague told police that she had sent degrading letters about him to at least 30 recipients. Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Chief Deputy Stitch Guillory told Fox29 that several people have contacted the victim to tell him they had received the letters and pictures. The man told investigators that Pharis had access to his personal photographs through Facebook because she had helped him set up his account years earlier. Officials say Pharis traveled last month from her home in Sulphur, Louisiana pictured to suburban Houston to mail the photos to 30 people. Pharis was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with an additional 30 counts of non-consensual disclosure of a private image.
